0373264984 0373264984 From Booklist In this follow-up to Katie's Will (1997), Mitcheltree reunites college professor Paul Fischer with his former lover Pam Livingston. Fischer, now teaching at a small college in Maine, is down on his luck. His wife cleaned him out in the divorce, and he applied too late to get a teaching job at a more prestigious school. When someone ransacks his apartment, office, and car, Fischer realizes that the thief is only after one thing: information about the Baker family. In the series' debut, Fischer spent time in Oregon's Rogue River Valley doing research on the enigmatic Katie Baker. Pam, one of Katie's heirs, strung Fischer along to see if he would find the legendary pioneer's money. Harassed by similar break-ins, Pam comes to the same realization as Fischer: someone is desperate to get information on the Bakers. As they reluctantly reunite to get to the bottom of the mystery, Pam and Fischer rekindle old sparks. The plot has some holes, but the high level of suspense keeps you going. 3 Tom Mitcheltree Katie's Will (Worldwide Library Mysteries)
Worldwide Library 19991001 0373263287 / 9780373263288 MM Very Good
0373263287 0373263287 From Library Journal Paul Fischer has received a research grant to write the biography of a turn-of-the-century Oregon doctor named Hollingsworth, but when he arrives in the small town of Jacksonville, he discovers a much more interesting subject. Hollingsworth ministered to a prominent family that had three daughters, all of whom died old maids despite great beauty and wealth. Overcoming legal blockades, Fischer attempts to discover why, writing the daughters' story as he investigates and exploiting the usual family secrets. Unfortunately, pedestrian prose and lack of finesse make this a marginal purchase.
