Megan McDonald Judy Moody Saves the World! (Book #3) Candlewick 2004 0763620874 / 9780763620875 Paperback New 0763620874 0763620874 From Publishers Weekly Inspired by environmental studies in school and a humiliating defeat in a Band-Aid design contest, Judy Moody, in her third adventure, revamps her family's recycling efforts and confiscates her classmates' wooden pencils in Judy Moody Saves the World by Megan McDonald, illus. by Peter Reynolds. Ages 6-10. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. From Booklist Gr. 2-5. The third title in the Judy Moody series finds the spunky third-grader in a save-the-world mood. Judy would like to enter an adhesive bandage design contest, but she doesn't have any ideas. Then a class environmental preservation project inspires her creativity, as well as a new mission. But it's not long before Judy discovers that saving the world isn't easy, whether she is trying to convince her father not to drink rainforest bean coffee or her mom to dispose of a rubber toilet plunger. However, Judy persists, and while bandage-art fame eludes her, she does come up with a class recycling project that makes a difference. It also puts her in a very good mood. This charming read features characteristically snappy, humorous prose; expressive, witty, black-and-white illustrations; and some great ideas for classroom or home projects. The book stands alone, but fans will enjoy familiar, distinctive characters and references from previous titles. Shelle Rosenfeld Copyright ? American Library Association. Megan McDonald Stink: The Incredible Shrinking Kid Candlewick 2005 0763620254 / 9780763620257 Hardcover Very Good 0763620254 0763620254 From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 2-Judy Moody's little brother, James (aka Stink), is the shining star of this dramatic production of Megan McDonald's beginning chapter book (Candlewick, 2005). Stink's perception that he is shorter than the average second grader is reinforced by his sister, Judy, who revels in every opportunity for sibling rivalry. While the story line centers around Stink's height problem, it also embraces humor and provides plenty of facts to make the story believable. When President's Day arrives, for example, Stink presents a brief report on the shortest president, James Madison. McDonald's humor-infused story is full of puns (the classroom "newt in shining armor" meets his untimely end in the garbage disposal while under Stink's care for the weekend) that will keep listeners glued to their headphones. Unique voice talent is provided by Nancy Cartwright, best known as the voice of television's Bart Simpson. Her timing is impeccable and her voicing is playful, adding a new dimension to this already compelling story. Appropriate for group or individual listening, this title will be especially appreciated by emergent readers.-Kirsten Martindale, formerly Menomonie Public Library, WI Copyright ? Price:
