Harry Turtledove Down to Earth (Colonization, Book 2) Del Rey 0345430204 / 9780345430205 Hardcover Very Good 0345430204 0345430204 ISBN: 0345430204 Hardcover with dustjacket, 489 pages. VG/G+. Dustjacket has slight tear top of spine area, otherwise a solid unmarked copy! Del Rey, First Edition, First Printing, February 2000. Science Fiction, Alternate History. Another remarkable installment!, February 19, 2000 By Jackie Tortorella - This is the best sci fi series I've read. I marvel at Turtledove's vivid imagination and uncanny ability to characterize the lizards. I get so engrossed in his books that they seem utterly real to me. There are many characters in the book, some not so likeable as others, but I think he does a good job maintaining continuity. As fine as the characterization is, let's not forget this is primarily a work of plot, and the twists and turns do not disappoint. I hated to finish the book, because the wait for the next installment will seem so long. This is one series I hope continues for many more volumes! I'd appreciate any recommendations from other readers who love this series. Price:

Harry Turtledove Krispos Rising Del Rey 1991 0345361180 / 9780345361189 Mass Market Paperback Very Good 0345361180 0345361180 From Publishers Weekly Because of rising taxes on his village and the untimely deaths of his parents and sister, young Krispos is forced to leave the family farm and seek his fortune elsewhere. He heads to the imperial city of Videssos, taking with him the magic goldpiece bestowed upon him as a child by the emperor. Krispos first gains employment as a groom for the lecherous Iakovitzes, but the stage is set for what will follow when a noblewoman, Tanilis, has a vision of Krispos as "Majesty." Through Iakovitzes's political connections, Krispos eventually earns the trust of the lighthearted emperor Anthimos, and becomes his chamberlain, but he also earns the distrust of the emperor's uncle, Petronas, who casts a sorcerer's spell on the increasingly influential young man. This is only a temporary setback, however, as Anthimos quashes Petronas's imperial aspirations and sends him packing to a monastery. In this prequel to his Videssos Cycle series , Turtledove provides a thoroughly engrossing adventure about a young farmer, thrown to the wolves in the imperial city, who not only survives but rises above it all. Copyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc. Product Description Videssos was beset by enemies abroad and had fallen into decadence at home. But on his first night in the imperial capital, The Empires health mattered less to Krispos than finding a dry place to sleep. Driven by crushing taxes from the farm where his family had lived -- and died -- Krispos had come to the. city seeking what fortune a good mind and a strong back could earn. He had a single goldpiece to his name -- the gift, years past, of a nomad chieftain to a ragged peasant boy. Now, though the night was raw and the inn was warm, he was loath to spend that coin, for the barbarian had claimed it carried magic. Keep his lucky goldpiece or trade it for a warm, dry bed? Krispos tucked the coin away and stepped back into the wet streets -- all unaware that so simple a choice would lead to a world of peril and possibility... Price:

Harry Turtledove Upsetting the Balance (Worldwar Series, Volume 3) Del Rey 0345402219 / 9780345402219 Hardcover Very Good 0345402219 0345402219 ISBN: 0345402219 Hardcover with dustjacket, 481 pages. VG/VG. A Very Nice Unmarked Copy! Del Rey, First Edition, First Printing, February 1996. Science Fiction, Alternate History. fascinating look at an alternate history of World War II, February 21, 2003 By A Customer This review is from: Upsetting the Balance (Worldwar Series, Volume 3) I have read the entire series (all four books) and recommend them highly. (Worldwar: In The Balance, Worldwar: Tilting the Balance, Worldwar: Upsetting the Balance, and Worldwar: Striking the Balance) The background research that Turtledove has done is amazing. I have found all kinds of snippets of information he has woven into his plot. After reading the tetralogy, I have found myself reflecting on Germany's role in WWII, the position of the Jews before, during and after WWII, and the struggle in China. The subplot about nuclear bomb development is my favorite. If you like military history and like alternate history read this book!
