Reading Copy Only/No Jacket npd., c. 1929, 1930, red bds., 249pp., (shelf wear, corners bumped, covers soiled-discolored-rubbed, page ends yellowed-soiled, pages yellowed-soiled, crinkling and half moons from page turning, several upper page corner tips removed, several pages creased to corners, binding good). Note: the only printed dates are two copyright dates: 1929 and 1930. Harper's code 'M-W' indicates a printing date of December, 1947. This would jibe with a date printed on the bottom of the rear dust jacket flap: ''Harper 1-21-48''. The ''First Edition'' statement is in place on the copyright page. To the best of my knowledge, this is a first edition, the discrepancy in Harper's date code and the copyright date, I believe to be due to the fact that this was originally published serially as The Horizon of Danger.
